Dental implants are by far the best choice for the replacement of missing teeth. Dental implants are titanium posts that are placed in the jaw and serve to replace missing tooth roots. We work closely with a local oral surgeon or periodontist who places dental implants. Dr. Norton then provides the necessary crowns or bridges once healing is complete. The restored implant tooth looks and feels like a natural tooth and is brushed and flossed in the same way as the tooth it has replaced. It stimulates the bone to keep it healthy and doesn't involve doing crowns on any adjacent teeth as would be need if a bridge were done.
Dr. Norton uses dental crowns to restore teeth to natural function and appearance following root canals and other situations that can compromise the structure of a tooth. Crowns fit on top of modified natural teeth, restoring their functionality. The large majority of the dental crowns at Dentistry at Sugarloaf are created in one day using our in-office CEREC® machine. Your crowns are matched to the color, size, and shape of your natural teeth, creating a beautiful, seamless smile.
A dental bridge spans the gap left where you have lost one or more teeth in a row. A bridge is comprised of several individual teeth fused together to seamlessly restore your smile and chewing function. It may be supported by specialized dental crowns placed on adjacent natural teeth, or secured onto dental implants that have been placed within your jaw.
CEREC® makes it possible to create custom-made porcelain inlays, onlays, crowns, veneers and certain types of bridges in a single visit. CEREC® creates highly detailed 3D images of your smile, which are used to guide computerized manufacturing technology. Patients can have their restorations created and placed in just one visit. Thanks to this advanced technology, you can achieve a restored and beautiful-looking smile faster than ever before.
During root canal treatment, infected or dead nerve tissue will be removed from within your tooth. After that, the empty canals that are left will be cleansed, disinfected and filled with an inert rubber-like material. It is then sealed to protect it from further infection. Root canal (endodontic) treatment weakens the structure of a tooth, so in most cases, it should subsequently be restored and protected from possible fracturing by placing a dental crown. Root canal therapy preserves the outer tooth structure and can protect it for many years.
Dr. Norton practices biological dentistry which takes into account the effect that dental treatments can have on your overall health. He offers the safe removal of silver mercury amalgam fillings and replacement with tooth-colored materials. If you are considering the removal of an amalgam filling, it is very important that you select a dentist who takes extra precautions to protect your other tissues from mercury during removal. The doctor practices a safe removal protocol based on his training many years ago with Dr. Hal Huggins.
